PLOT
On the farm lives an old widow, Dona Benta, along with her two grandchildren: Lúcia, called Narizinho ("Little Nose") because of her upturned nose, and her cousin Pedrinho ("Little Pete"). The household also includes their servant and cook, a black woman named Nastácia, and two talking puppets: Emília, a rag doll brought to life after ingesting Doctor Snail's "Talking Pills," and Visconde de Sabugosa, an aristocratic and knowledgeable puppet made from corncob. The farm is also home to various animals, including a fat pig named Rabicó ("Short-Tail"), a wise donkey called Conselheiro ("Advisor"), and Quindim, a rhinoceros who escaped from a circus and is secretly kept by the children.
